Lucid is a relatively new red dot scope manufacturer, being founded in 2009, with the flagship product being the Lucid HD7 scope, which is an incredible scope (you can find that review here) and it’s an incredible scope, able to perform with the best, yet cost substantially less. After producing the HD7, they knew they could also produce excellent quality magnifiers, and if you look at the cost of the Aimpoint and other magnifiers, you will notice that they are nearly as expensive as the optics they are used with, when there is no need for those kind of prices, especially when many of the components are of the same high quality. Lucid’s mission is to provide high quality optics and magnifiers, at the prices they SHOULD be sold at, so no longer are the high quality optics and magnifiers only affordable by the rich.
When looking through the HD7, you will notice that you can see the LED emitter on the left side. And this would be the case with all red dots like the Aimpoint, which is why many of them are 2X optics so you are essentially zoomed past the LED emitter and cannot see it, but the HD7 with its 1x optic has a greater field of view, which is an advantage in close in engagements. But, but it’s also nice to be able to convert the HD7 to a 2X scope, and to do that, all you need is the new Lucid Screw in Magnifier, which screws into directly into the GEN 2 Lucid HD7.
Now this is where I have to remind everyone that the screw-in magnifier will ONLY work with the second generation HD7 scope, and not the first generation (wrong thread diameter), so if you were one of the first to purchase an HD7, then the screw in model is not for you, but if you purchased you HD7 from Webyshops then you should already have the Gen 2 HD7, and if you do have the Gen 2 HD7, this 2X screw-in magnifier, then this is a MUST HAVE product, well worth the price. For the price you can buy one just for a 2X monocular, it’s that good.
Installation is very easy, as you only need to thread it into the eyepiece of the HD7 (being careful not to cross thread), and you are done. If you have limited rail space, then the 2X is the model for you, the other lucid magnifiers require mounts, which take up rail space. What I like about the 2X is I can use my HD7’s full field of view, then increase the capabilities of my HD7, by pulling the small screw-in magnifier from my pocket, thread it on, and then have a 2x Magnification scope. At night or low light I tend to not use much magnification, but during the day when I want to see a bit farther, I thread in the 2X and I’m done.
The optical clarity of the glass in the 2X screw-in magnifier is incredible, and the body is tough aluminum that makes the unit 100% shock proof (tested up to 7.62x51mm/308 Winchester) and 100% water proof, and with it in place you have a field of view at 100 yards of 37 feet, and as for weight, it’s only 2 oz’s so it’s light weight.
Overall I’m very pleased with my Lucid 2X screw-in magnifier from Webyshops, and highly recommend it to anyone who owns, or planning to purchase the Lucid HD7 scope. You’re going to love it as much as I love mine.
